In 1973, Gordon Merchant began producing handmade board shorts under his house overlooking his beloved Burleigh Point. It was a tropical haven renowned for consistent sand bottom barrels, where life was betting in board shorts all year round. 

From these humble beginnings, Billabong was born with a simple philosophy: To make the most durable boardshorts possible for surfers.
